Our History

Since the turn of this Century, The Markstone Group has been literally making its mark in all areas of the real estate development landscape. Back in 2000, Isaac Markowitz and Abe Strulovitch, both second generation industry players, looked to cultivate a desire to learn all they could about the pivotal relationship between real estate and municipalities. They each independently became aware of the pressing need for suburban development, particularly in the area of senior living and longed to meet the rising expectations of a new generation of retirees.

Luckily for thousands of people over the age of 55, Isaac and Abe joined forces and, in 2012, created the Markstone Group in an effort to fill this great need. This new, family-owned company would focus on land acquisition and would fund construction-ready development in prime suburban areas.

Today, Markstone is widely known for its high-powered, qualified team that works cohesively with municipalities and cultivates sound relationships with landowners throughout an informed and smooth process, while providing hands-on property management. Markstone continues to look for new opportunities for growth and development in order to enhance the communities it serves.

Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Isaac Markowitz hails from a long line of real estate magnates, dating back over a half a century. With over thirty years of experience in the industry himself, Isaac has been involved in every facet of commercial and residential development, building management, asset investment and financial capital allocation in addition to other real estate-related ventures. Highly respected as a visionary in his field, Isaac is known and trusted throughout many of the municipalities in New York and New Jersey for his creativity and persistent nature in creating community-friendly developments. 
He does not shy away from taking on projects that are riddled with challenges. In fact, he is an expert in mitigating environmental issues that would typically stall or completely kill projects for other developers. Isaac designs Markstone’s strategic plan and continuously sets its course in an upward direction, while retaining its solid foundation, built on values that have led to its current success.

Mendy Perl

Chief Financial Officer
Mendy Perl is an experienced finance professional with a pristine track record in the accounting and financial services sector. He plays an instrumental role in guiding the company’s monetary success by overseeing the comprehensive portfolio of financial responsibilities, including capital allocation, risk management, financial reporting, and investment strategy.
In Mendy’s previous role, where he was a long-tenured Finance and Legal Manager, his daily duty included providing foresight on cash flow, preparing, and negotiating a multitude of financial instruments, opining, and analyzing legal structures and payroll, along with managing a team of fifteen.
With Mendy’s diligence and dedication to the company, The Markstone Group maintains a healthy financial landscape that imbues continual profitability and a diversified portfolio for the foreseeable future.

Abraham Strulovitch

Vice President of Construction
Abraham Strulovitch comes from an historically successful background of real estate prowess, spanning almost forty years. In his decades of experience, he has been involved in the various aspects of real estate with a concentration on ground-up construction. Senior housing residences, urban high-rise apartment complexes and mixed-use commercial buildings are just some of the types of projects Abraham has erected. He is very well-known in the communities of New York and New Jersey for real estate development that is highly beneficial to surrounding areas. 
His properties possess a distinct look with contemporary feeling, yet, decidedly, retain the traditions of each community’s landscape. Moreover, the amenities, facilities, and designs that he creates are state-of-the-art and tenant friendly. Abraham continues to put The Markstone Group in a position to consistently output structures that are highly distinct, efficient, and captivating for municipalities and individuals.

Jacob Freund

Chief Operations Officer
Jacob Freund is the Chief Operations Officer at the Markstone Group with a decade of experience in operations. Jacob has a proven track-record of increasing value across multiple industries. He is a strategic, self-motivated, and action-oriented leader with a hands-on approach to removing barriers to success.
Prior to joining Markstone, Jacob worked at Fingercheck, a SaaS HR company, where he led the implementation team and later served as Vice President of Product. In his role at Fingercheck, Jacob gained a deep understanding of processes and developed a unique way to streamline the most complex processes, using technology. He is a skilled communicator with a proven ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
As COO of Markstone, Jacob is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s operations, including project management, professional development, human resources, and technology. He is also a key member of the company’s executive team and plays a pivotal role in developing and executing the company’s strategic plan.
As a highly motivated and results-oriented leader with a passion for excellence, Jacob is also a strong advocate for collaboration and innovation. He is committed to building a culture of continuous improvement at Markstone and is constantly looking for ways to streamline processes and improve the company’s bottom line.

Jarrel P. Guerrero, Esquire

Chief Legal Officer
Jarrel P. Guerrero, Esquire, has a depth of experience in real estate law that few others possess. With knowledge in commercial and residential contract and lease negotiation and development, Jarrel serves as counsel to retail and private lenders across the country. As a testament to his proficiency in buying and selling, Jarrel works as a real estate educator, conducting classes for real estate professionals nationwide in order to share his expertise in Title issues and in New York mortgage and acquisition nuances. 
Jarrel earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Binghamton University and a Juris Doctorate from New England Law School. He is licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey and is a former board member affiliate of the Manhattan Chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association. Jarrel examines and analyzes all the legal scenarios and potential outcomes for Markstone to ensure compliance within the strict legal confines of real estate, and at the same time, meets with town officials to implement projects that seamlessly assimilate into their respective developments.
